What is a Random State Wheel?
A random state wheel is an interactive tool that places US states around a spinning wheel and randomly selects one when spun. Each slice displays a state name, and when the wheel stops, the selected state is shown in a result popup with a celebratory sound.
How to Use the Random State Generator
Using the tool is simple:
Step 1: Open Custom The Wheel!
Click the "Custom The Wheel!" button to open the configuration panel where you can choose which states appear on the wheel.
Step 2: Choose State Options
Use the State Options dropdown to select which states to include:
- All 50 States: Every US state on one wheel.
- Northeast: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont.
- South: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia.
- Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin.
- West: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.
Step 3: Choose Style Options
Use the Style Options dropdown to change how state names appear:
- Title Case: Standard state name formatting (e.g., New York).
- UPPERCASE: Shows every state name in capital letters.
- lowercase: Shows every state name in lowercase letters.
Step 4: Shuffle the Wheel
Use the Shuffle (⇄) button to randomize the order of states on the wheel. The badge next to INPUTS shows how many states are currently on the wheel.
Step 5: Spin the Wheel
Close the panel if needed, then click "SPIN" in the center of the wheel. You can also use Ctrl+Enter or Cmd+Enter on Mac.
Step 6: View Your Result
When the wheel stops, the selected state appears in a popup with a tada sound. Click "Results" to view your recent picks or "Color The Wheel!" to change the color theme.
